1. Introduction
The purpose of this application note is to help users convert existing designs from
AT89S52/AT89LS52 to AT89LP52. AT89LP52 is meant as a drop-in replacement for
AT89S52 or AT89LS52. The AT89LP52 is Atmel’s first 8051 product to include both
single-cycle (Fast) and classic 12-Clock (Compatibility) execution modes. Compatibil-
ity mode can ease the migration process for legacy designs with little or no software
changes. For users looking for more performance, Fast mode and other new features
are available to meet their needs. This application note describes the AT89LP52
memories, new and enhanced features, and SFR mapping and register differences.
Some assembly code examples are provided. More detailed information can be found
in the AT89LP52 datasheet.
